Why donate money instead of food?

While we will always accept food donations! St. Cletus is a member agency of the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) where we are able to source food for free or often at pennies on the dollar. So instead of spending $10 on a bag of groceries to donate, you can donate the money to St. Cletus Food Pantry and we can purchase as many as five bags of groceries for that same $10! Since St. Cletus Food Pantry is a 501(c)(3) charity, you may be able to enjoy a tax deduction for your donation.

Food Donations

We accept all in-date, unopened, non-perishable items. They can be dropped off in the designated food bins located in Madonna della Strada shrine in the Church Narthex. You may bring them when you come to weekend Mass or daily, from 7:45 AM-4:00 PM.
Suggested staple items include:
dry pinto beans, rice, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, pasta sauce, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned soup, macaroni & cheese, tuna, cereal, crackers, paper goods, all sizes of diapers, cleaning products, feminine hygiene items, toilet paper, toiletries

Food Drives

For large donations or food drives, please contact Kendall Grant (kgrant@stcletusparish.com or 708.215.5418)
1. Contact the Pantry
Find out if we can accommodate a drive at this time! We don’t always have space depending on the time of year. Find out what our current needs are so we can request the most needed items.
2. Identify type of food drive
Do you want to collect funds, food, or both? Do you want to focus on something specific (school supplies, gift cards, PB&J, cleaning supplies, cereal)? Consider raising food AND funds! For every $1 donated, we are able to purchase $9 worth of food at the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
3. Choose a location to host your food drive
Your office building, place of worship or school is an obvious choice. But you could also do it as an event entrance incentive.
4. Set a time frame
It could last several weeks, or just one day at an event.
5. Promote!
Send emails, post flyers, and make announcements to get the word out.
